Mugrabi

A classical font revival with a strong connection to the Jugendstil font commonly used in Jewish European print.
A revival to a classical font from the Bezalel catalogue (where it is known as Sephardi). The references for this letter’s rejuvenation were drawn from Tel-Aviv’s Mugrabi movie theater’s old movie posters, and from posters by David Tartakover. Little is known about the font or the identity of its creator, but it is stylishly linked to the Jugendstil font commonly used in Jewish European print. It is characterized by a great contrast between its horizontal and vertical lines, and a square, decorative build. We’ve taken the original letter and added two weights with perpendicular lines in varying width, creating tension within the letter’s construction.
In late 2016 we’ve rebuilt the entire font, improved its curves, added many new characters and features, as well as two new experimental weights: stencil and wireframe.
